“For the past six years, we have been striving to share the absolute best in technology with the world, producing a total of 13 industry-leading smartphones,” said CEO Pete Lau in a statement. “And now we’re excited to introduce our first-ever concept phone, the OnePlus Concept One, at CES 2020.” But he doesn’t stop there, continuing: “The name itself, Concept One, is a clear promise that this device is only the first in a series to come and shows our commitment to applied, innovative technology – bringing users an ever smoother, faster, and more “burdenless” experience. The OnePlus Concept One, demonstrates a vision of both new technology and alternate design approach for the future of smartphones.”

Much like the company’s first phone was called the OnePlus One, so this phone will be part of a series. OnePlus is truly reaching for the stars here. It has been aggressively expanding and positioning itself at the forefront of the mobile industry since it really hit its stride with 2016’s OnePlus 3T. The company has just celebrated its sixth birthday.  Rumours will build over the next three weeks, but it’d be nice not to see a leak – it’s been a while since the industry has been truly surprised and delighted at a phone launch because the thing hasn’t leaked to death. We’d expect something along the line of a foldable phone with no ports if future smartphone trends are to be followed, but the use of the word ‘concept’ makes us curious as to how OnePlus will grow the line into a series of phones. Will it be sold alongside the regular OnePlus phones? Will it be sold using the company’s old invite system? Will it be sold at all? All should be revealed on 7 January, and we’ll be there to report on it.
